Default PvP Armor items and whatever

Ok so ive been playing PvP for a while. Joined a Guild and am reasonably regular. And whats this I can only unlock items skills and not buy them etc. but i see everyone running round in kick butt armour - custom built i guess - me im still in my starting Ranger armor. Factions = PvP Longbow+Recurve bow and Krytan armor, boots, gloves etc.

I Also Have a RP character which i havnt used in quite a while - still at Lvl7.

I dont mean to Whine but...

if you have some tips, direction on how to get/make some wicked items for my Pvp character that would be sweet.

here's a tip, get +10 armour vs physical for all your ranger armour, or maybe +10 armour while attacking, so then you have like 100 armour vs elemental dmge, and 80 armour vs physical dmge.

the above tip is horrible. please disregard it.

by "awesome" armor, i believe you mean prestige armor sets and such. there are two ways to get them: one is to make your pve character, level it up to level 20, buy all the relevent skills, buy perfect runes and insignia combos, and pay 15k per piece + materials on the armor you want. oh yeah, you'll need to buy/craft/beg for perfect weapons.

the other way to do the same is to win automated tournament matches. this involves some pretty good gvg, or hero battles. i won't get into much details on this, but the short answer is it's not easy.

so there you have it. you can A: spend approximately 150k gold and a lot of time to make yourself a pvp-ready pve character, or B: you can get really good and earn them with tournament points. personally, i'd go for the 150k gold. option B is not an option unless you are really good (which, btw, you are not).

I agree with Moriz (apart from the final insult, which i feel was a little unnecassery).

The kickass armours are from the PvE campaign, you won't be able to get them on a PvP character without winning lots of automated tournement battles.

PvE is a great way to learn to play the game, and I find its more fun tearing people to pieces with a character you've seen grown from lvl1.

Yes, while perhaps true it was rather unwarrented. Lol

Thanks for the tips and ill be sure to put to use. It should help me be a better player cos more good players makes the games more enjoyable right.

Any suggestion on places to go to pickup great gear. or what about enchanting - modifying existing items.

The most thing you have to be concerned about is what kind of insignia you are going to use as well as runes. You really don't need elite armour to PvP with i would save that for your PvE char instead.I wouldn't use ATS rewards to get armour for a PvP if you are going to keep it as it will not unlock the armour.PvP char mostly use base armour as they won't be keeping or going to PvE areas so who cares.

Get your RP character up to 20.

I started this game doing PvP. I can't begin to tell you how many insults and shit were thrown my way.

If you play PvE first you will discover the slightest bit of game-mechanics (ie, reaper's sweep in your face gone critical sucks)

But yeah. You're not close to good enough to do AT's, so...just pick up PvE if you'd like to do that.

But let's see, you want prices?
I can provide that. My monk, w/o her obsidian armor, let's just say Kurz 15k

Armor itself = roughly 100-130k, depending on material prices and dyes.
Runes = Sup vigor, minor healing, insignia, and the like. currently, roughly 25k.
Skills - to be pvp ready, you need a lot. Let's say....50k. Elites included. Conservative, I know, shoot me.
Weapons. I use fancy shit, but...let's see...
Shield sets, altogether...cheap items....200k? because of +30 modifiers?
and your sword/spear/axe offhand - let's say 20k.

So...to make my character pvp ready (which she is) 395k. A lot of cash.

With a ranger, you subtract the weapons somewhat. But it's still close. To have "wicked" looking stuff....and topnotch (or close to) stuff, gonna be at least 300k.

At this point I would recommend just using the regular PvP gear. There is no shame in that, as most PvPers use it out of convenience. The kickass-looking prestige equipment you see some players use gives them no advantages over you in terms of armor stats or weapon damage. The albeit-bland looking PvP gear has max stats. Besides that, some players equate prestige armor with being a "PvE noob" and other such nonsense. Ridiculous though it is, using the PvP stuff keeps you clear of that.

That said, I for one totally understand the drive to get some really awesome looking equipment. I don't use PvP characters at all, myself. However, my PvE characters have been worked on for the better part of two years now, and its a lot of work to get PvE equipment up to the level of PvP stuff. If that's what you want to strive for, I say go for it...its just going to take a while. In the meantime, use what you have available to you.

If you want other mods for your weapons, such as the Enchanting mod you mentioned, you'll be best using Balthazar faction--won in PvP--to unlock those items from the Priest NPCs. You can then create them for use by PvP characters. To get equivalent gear for PvE characters, you'd need to spend a lot of cash.

Sweet, Thanks for the kick ass tips.
I spent a yesterday as a hermit and well was quite nice cos i got my assasins insignia and leveled up to 10 so should soon be on the fly.

Theres some real gold in thes posts and is cool to get great tips from some pro's.

Kudos to the developers for this site and all contributers cos U rock.

Somethin regarding skills. My pve character is A/r so that i can unlock skills for my pvp ranger. Am i correct in saying that
skills unlocked in pve carries to pvp, does that automaticly transfer or do i have to do something else.

Yes. When you first unlock a skill in PvE or PvP (via the Rewards NPC), its unlocked for your entire account. The same goes for unlocking weapon mods, armor insignia, and runes.

Yeah...that's where I learned a lot of the basic mechanics of the game and even some basic strategy and gameplay. Some people see PvE as a killfest, but if you see it as a training ground and stepping stone to get better at PvP, that'll be more effective.

If you press J whilst on a pvp character a screen will come up offering you options to craft weapons and armour for free which will be customised for your pvp character.

You will only be able to use runes, weapon mods and insignia/inscriptions which you have unlocked on your account.

srsly i think you could learn to pvp faster than you could get money in this game at this point srsly. lets say you want a ranger since you started this thread about rangers i guess... I myself have 4 15k armor sets that i modded for pvp all have the runes insigs so thats like a million dollars right there... then you have the bows. only reason you run your pve in pvp is to look good so youre not gonna have collectors but rather mursaat bows, silverwing recurve bows, eternal bows, dead bows <_<, and the like. these bows youre gonna want will probably be gold but no one will know if its an awesome max dmg blue/purple unless you show. next youre gonna want r8/r9/r10 at the max since rangers usually dont have toooo high a marks. now your weapons are gonna be a lot... next maybe youre running purge sig on your bar now you will probably want a axe/sword/spear with -5e +30hp and then cause of that you can actually have a shield +30hp so that adds even more money... and for the sake of lookin good everything is gonna costs lots. oh also forgot that you probably will want to dye your armors so more money. see PvEs cost like 2390840293840932840239 gold to make srsly... trust me i have my ranger with 4 15ks... my ele , my warrior, and my monk... i gave them all 15ks i got every single needed weapon set for them and im sure id be madd rich if i didnt do that.. but yea i wanted to look good for when i do gvg i guess...

trust me lrn2pvp probably faster than getting money in this game SRSLY

i have about 500 reward points from tournys left on me but i have no use for them haha since the profs i play in pvp i made into pves.... so yea if i could id be saying WTS RP points haha

also about weapon/armor crafting for pvps just press J and make whatever you want... just make sure the thing you want to unlock you already unlocked thru pve or thru bal faction which eveything costs 1k bal faction cept elite skills which are 3k and i believe sup runes and major runes differ too but i cant rmemeber... uax since like last year...

btw easiest way to get faction i would say is to either be a pro patient monk in RA or just go all out dmg with a shock axe/hammar warr and rip nubs up... not too hard to get 1k faction...

You don't directly craft it using your assassin... you can unlock items (Runes, Insignia, or weapon upgrades) in PvE and then when you craft your PvP armor with your Ranger, you'll be able to add unlocked items to it. Same goes for weapons.

Anytime you loot an item that says "Unidentified," that means it has some sort of upgrade attached to it. If its an Unidentified weapon, it will have some kind of mod on it (though there's no guarantees it will be something good, of course). Its also possible to loot bits of your enemies' armor in PvE, which is sometimes Unidentified and contains Insignia and Runes to unlock. You'll need an Identification Kit (from a Merchant) to identify things. If you ID it and find something your account hasn't already unlocked, it will "unlock" it for you in the same way you unlock new skills... thus making the mod/rune/insignia available in PvP.

Also, Unidentified loot comes in colors: Blue is the most common, Purple is uncommon, Gold is rare. Rare items have the greatest probability of having max-level mods.

Haaaahaaaahaaa yeah i just worked out what you were talking about while i was playing Pvp, too used to Roleplaying where armor is paid for crafting but thats a wicked feature. A little more tweakable for each battle if you find soemthing isnt working out.

Cashed In my faction credits for amber chunks and sold through pve and unlocked all my ranger skills, Its makiing Pvp a lot easier.

Excellent. Some vital things to unlock once you get the faction would definitely be a Superior Vigor rune, a +30hp Fortitude Grip for your bow, Radiant insignias, and as many Ranger-specific runes as you can find.

Many Rangers in PvP use Crippling or Poisonous Bowstrings also since those are two staple conditions in many builds.

As for skills, feel free to experiment. Since you're doing Alliance Battles (I assume) you might want to check out the Alliance Battles forum; Moriz posted some great guides on there about two very popular and useful builds, The Burning Arrow ranger and the Crippling Shot ranger, as well as several guides about general AB skills. Still useful information even after you're a veteran
